Make-Up Artist Aruni and I wanted to do some fantasy inspired photos. We settled on creating a daemon like creature with horns and feathers… Shopping time! There is a big textile shop on Mariahilferstraße in Vienna where they sell all types of textiles. We bought a roll of feathery clothing and Aruni sewed a short dress and a shoulder piece. The horns are made out of paper towel rolls.
The photo shoot took place within city limits in an urban forest. I used two speedlights with radio triggers. One was mounted on a gorillapod to branches behind the model as a rim light. The other one had a small softbox attached to it and was either handheld or on a lightstand on a 45 degree angle in front of the talent.
The later it got the less passersby we encountered in the park but the more mosquitos attacked us. We got pretty much eaten up by them in the evening hours but it was definitely worth it. So guys don’t forget to take repellent with you into the woods!!
For post processing I used Lightroom and Photoshop. The video below shows a retouch of one of the pictures speeded up tremendously.
